Why Should You Play Inline?

02/25/07

By YIL

In the past several years being around the sport, the inline game has developed and enhanced many ice hockey players to be most offensive players in ice hockey.

When you play inline there is a few things that are different then playing ice that make it more offensive;

We play with only 4 players (2 defense and 2 forwards) on the floor which creates more space for a player to make a decision and allows more time for that player to carry a puck. This creates more confidence carrying a puck. If you do not have a puck, you and the other players on your team have to get open. Going to open space without the puck... Could that help a ice player?

There is no offsides or icings. This means that you can pass the puck from one end of the floor to the other end. No one has to slow down. This creates faster tape to tape passes and more room for speed.

All of this allows for an INCREASE VISION AND QUICKER PASSING  SKILLS for an ice player...RESULTING IN ......A REAL UNDERSTANDING OF THE GAME OF HOCKEY.

There is no hitting. This allows players to hang on to puck a little bit more which enhances stickhandling and puck protection. Ice players learn how to drive the net better, not to mention this allows for tips,screens and better shooting percentage....Could that help a ice hockey player?

There is no pressure to win at all costs. Often this can cause a player to loose the desire to play.  Inline is fun and refreshing. We play music when stoppage in play, allowing player to relax and just have fun. In turn, this all generates more oppourtunites to score and love playing a different kind of hockey.

HEY, do not think it is all about offense. What happens when you do not have the puck? Okay let's think......Where is the puck going? You have to skate to pick up a check or get into a good defensive postion to reduce a good scoring chance.  By the way,  if you hate defence, well then a 10-8 score sounds like fun to play. That is why this expression has merrit.

"Pond hockey without the pond"  games are a lot of fun on the pond.  No screaming coaches, just a bunch of players, no matter the gender, enjoying the game for what it is, A GAME.

YIL creates a different venue for success for every players. Whether you are recreational or competitive, there is something for everyone.  Recreational House League for those who want to just have fun and get better playing at a different speed (for the house league ice player) and a HUB League for the rep ice hockey player who wants to sharpen their skills.  For the more competitive player we  have Rep Thrashers who travel and play in tournaments such as Narch, TORHS and AAU Championships.

The sport has World Championships for the competitive player to reach the highest goal.

In the next few weeks we will get testamonials from NHLers or NWHLers who played a season or more. We will get testamonials from young players stating why the enjoy playing inline?

This sport grabs you and that is why in this sport we say

"Once you start.....try stopping"
